Hawaii First Community Ventures is a 501(C)(3) non-profit arm of Hawaii First Federal Credit Union. Since 2008, we’ve established two Community Resource Centers in Hilo and Kamuela that are free to all community members to utilize and where we provide financial coaching and other empowerment services. With our existing financial coaching program called Pathways, we created the “Pathways, Rebuilding Lives” project which is focused on helping to rebuild the lives of those impacted by the current lava flow disruption located in the Puna area of Hawaii Island.
Our goal is to create the opportunity for residents to work one-on-one with our Hawaii First financial coaches and participate in the free financial wellness program. Participants will create an action plan focused on rebuilding their lives and strengthening their financial skills. Since we’re the first approved Blue Zone Project on the Island of Hawaii, we know that financial wellness plays an important role in the overall wellness of both the individual and their family.
We are continuing to seek support from you, our Community Development Partners, to collect monetary donations which will, in turn, be deployed directly back to residents impacted by the volcanic activities occurring on Hawaii Island. Funds will be granted to individuals upon the completion of their short and long-term action steps. Funds will be used to cover essential living expenses, such as housing, employment and transportation, as determined in their action plans.
