Rent and Mortgage Assistance Program (RMAP) Grants Available to Households impacted by COVID-19

  • Available to Hawaii Island residents only.
  • Total Income for all household members must be at or below these limits:
    •  Add $11,620 for each additional household member
      • 1 Person – $81,760
      • 2 persons – $93,380
      • 3 persons – $105,000
      • 4 persons – $116,620
      • 5 persons – $126,000
      • 6 persons – $135,380
      • 7 persons – $144,620
      • 8 persons – $154,000
  • Applications must be complete with required documents to be considered for the RMAP grant.
  • RMAP is funded by the County of Hawaii with Federal CARES Act dollars and will provide a rent or mortgage payment of up to $2,000 per month for households whose income qualifies and can prove hardship due to COVID-19.
  • This program may cover past due rent or mortgage payments from March 2020 to December 2020.
  • If approved, grant funds will be disbursed directly to the mortgage lender, property manager or landlord.
  • Applications will be processed by six Hawaii Island-based partners: Hawaiian Community Assets (HCA)/Hawaii Community Lending (HCL), HOPE Services Hawaii (HOPE), Hawaii First Federal Credit Union (HFFCU), Neighborhood Place of Puna (NPP), Hawaii Island Home for Recovery (HIHR) and Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island (HFHHI).
  • Households who previously received assistance through other COVID-19 federal or state funded programs for the requested period are not eligible. Applicants may need to provide information of financial resources received for the same purpose. See application for additional guidelines.
